DIAA 2021 Individual Wrestling State Championship Information


Dover, DE (March 1, 2021) –  – The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) will host the Individual Wrestling Championship on Wednesday, March 3rd.  It will be held at Cape Henlopen High School.  Weight classes 106-148 wrestled on Saturday, February 27 and weight classes 152-285 wrestled Sunday, February 28.  Some highlights from the preliminary rounds:
  • Emily Thode of Milford became the first girl in the history of Delaware wrestling to win a match.  She won her opening match on Saturday via second round pin. 
  • Corey Messick, Milford, in the 120 weight class, got his 100th win. 
  • Joey Natarcola, Smyrna, in the 160 weight class, got his 100th win.
Wednesday’s session schedule is as follows:
March 3 – Session Three
  • Consolation Round Five 11 a.m.
  • Championship Semi-finals 11a.m. 
  • Fifth Place 4:00 p.m. 2 mats
  • Third Place @ conclusion of 5th place 
  • National Anthem 5:55 p.m.
  • Championship Finals 6:00 p.m.                       
Ticket Information 
Final Round - $7.00 Students (K-12) and Adults
The DIAA Individual Wrestling Championship will allow two fans per wrestler for semifinal and final rounds.  All spectators will be required to wear DPH approved face coverings per the State’s Order and DPH guidelines.  In addition, spectators must comply with all risk mitigation strategies while in attendance.
