2020 DIAA Champions Crowned in Field Hockey, Boys Soccer, and Volleyball

Dover, DE (December 13, 2020) – DIAA State Champions were crowned in Field Hockey, Boys Soccer and Volleyball yesterday.  Five different teams total took home championships; Division 1 and Division 2 Field Hockey saw teams continue their championship streak, while Division 2 Boys Soccer and Volleyball had teams win the championship who had won in previous years.  Appoquinimink Boys Soccer was the only team who won a boys soccer state championship for the first time in school history. 


#1 St. Mark’s swept #3 Padua 3-0; 25-18, 25-17, 27-25

St. Mark’s wins their 12th Volleyball State Championship; last winning the title in 2011.  The 12 total Championships for St. Mark’s dates back to 1985.

#12 Delaware Military Academy won the 3rd place consolation game against #10 Wilmington Friends 2-1; 25-22, 26-28, 16-14.

#1 Delmar won it’s 5th straight Championship against #2 Caravel, 4-1 in the Division 2 Field Hockey State Championship.  

#1 Cape Henlopen beat #7 Polytech 3-0 in the DI Field Hockey Championship game.  This is Cape Henlopen’s fourth straight Championship and their 11th Championship since 1979.

In DI Boys Soccer Championship action, Appoquinimink beat 10 time defending State Champion Salesianum dramatically as they won on penalty kicks.  This is Appoquinimink’s first ever soccer state championship.  

Indian River beat Newark Charter 2-1 in the DII Championship game.  This is Indian River’s 3rd Boys Soccer Championship in school history, winning previously in 2015 and 2013.
