DIAA Cross Country Championship Results For 2020 Impress From Start To Finish!

Dover, DE (December 6, 2020) – One word describes the runners at the 2020 DIAA State Cross County Championships which concluded Saturday at chilly Killens Pond State Park - impressive! The Division I Girls race crowned Padua Academy Champions for the 8th straight season.  Division I Boys crowned Cape Henlopen as champions, for the first time in school history.  Division II Girls crowned Ursuline Academy as champions, for the 3rd straight year.  The Division II Boys Champion was Tatnall, who won it’s 14th championship since 2003.

Division II Boys Results 

Padua executed an impressive 8th straight Girls Division I Championship.  Mary Katherine Dorsey was Division I’s top runner, with a time of 19:33.00.  Padua placed 4 runners in the top 15.  This is Padua’s 20th Girls Cross Country Championship dating back to 1981.  Charter School of Wilmington was the Girls Division I Runner up, and they had 2 runners finish in the top 15.  

The boys from Cape Henlopen took home the Division I Championship for the first time in school history.  Cape placed 5 runners in the top 15, with Ryan Baker in 3rd place running a time of 16:30.60.  Salesianum was the Division I Boys Cross Country Runner up.  Ryan Banko was the division’s top runner with a time of 16:09.30  Salesianum placed 3 runners in the top 15.  Salesianum has previously won 43 Division I Championships dating back to 1970.      

For the 3rd straight year, the Division II Girls Champion was Ursuline Academy.  Ursuline placed 4 in the top 15.  This is Ursuline’s 14th Division II Cross Country Championship dating back to 1984. The Division II Girls Runner Up was St. Mark’s High School.  Tiffany Herrera was the Division’s top runner coming in 1st place, with a time of 18:51.20.  Tiffany is the first ever state championship cross country runner in St. Mark’s school history.  St. Mark’s placed 2 in the top 15. 

Tatnall was crowned the Boys Division II Champion for the 14th time since 2003.  Tatnall had a 2020 DIAA Cross Country Championship record 6 runners place in the top 15 with Declan McDonnell running the fastest time in the division with a time of 15:51.80.  Wilmington Friends was the Boys Division II Runner Up, after taking home the Championship in 2019.  Wilmington Friends placed 4 runners in the top 15.
