New partnership to strengthen post-secondary planning
A new partnership aims to strengthen schools post-secondary advisement plans and identify ways to remove barriers for students preparing for their post-secondary goals.
“Together we will explore best practices and pilot new initiatives to improve students’ post-secondary planning and readiness for college and career,” Secretary of Education Susan Bunting said. “Our goal is for every student to graduate with an informed career and educational plan aligned to his or her interests.”
The Delaware Student Success Collaborative is a five-year partnership between the Delaware Department of Education, three school districts (Capital, Christina and Milford), a charter school (Las Americas Aspira Academy), colleges and universities (Delaware College of Art and Design, Delaware State University, Delaware Technical Community College, Goldey-Beacom College, University of Delaware, Wesley College and Wilmington University), Delaware nonprofit organizations (StandByMe, Junior Achievement and United Way) and the National Postsecondary Strategy Institute.
Students in the participating districts and charter school will receive services from Junior Achievement and StandByMe and tour two Delaware colleges or universities.
Each school or organization will develop specific implementation goals to strengthen how the system supports every student. They will receive support from the collaborative as they work toward these goals during the five-year period.
“I’m excited about the deeper relationship that will be formed among our participating schools, our colleges and universities, and nonprofit partners. What we learn from these districts and the charter school could inform programming in schools across our state,” Bunting said.
The partners also said they are anxious to collaborate on this work.
“Our Capital team is committed to working collaboratively with our new partners and the Delaware Department of Education to create improved connections to support our students and their parents as they transition beyond high school in order to open doors for their hopes and dreams,” said Gene Montano, Capital School District’s supervisor of instruction.
