Drivers take home honors at 2016 School Bus Roadeo

Thirteen school bus drivers competed in the the 27th Annual School Bus Roadeo Saturday at Smyrna Middle School. The school bus safety competition is designed to recognize excellence in school bus drivers while demonstrating skills needed in their demanding jobs.  Events during the competition included: written test, bugged bus, offset alley, railroad crossing, straight line, right turn, back-in to a dock, parallel park, decreasing clearance and bus stop. The following individuals achieved the highest scores in their category and received plaques provided by the Delaware Association of Pupil Transportation Officials:

1st       Joshua Baran,  Brandywine School District

                        2nd     Aleisha Brown, Brandywine School District

                        3rd      Edmund Brouillette, Cape Henlopen School District

 

            Contractor

                        1st       Robyn Dawson, Advanced Student Transportation

                        2nd     Ulric Gibbons, Sutton Bus & Truck Company

                        3rd      John Chandler, Delmarva Bussing

 

The district and contractor driver competition winners received annual subscriptions to School Bus Fleet Magazine and special license plates for their school buses that identifies them as a category winner. Additionally, they are eligible to enter the 2016 School Bus Driver International Safety Competition to be held in conjunction with the National School Transportation Association Convention and Annual Meeting in Greensboro, NC, on July 16 and 17. Brandywine School District’s Joshua Baran was the overall champion. He will receive a magnetic vinyl placard in the shape of a school bus with his name on it for the inside of the bus so his students will be aware of his special achievement.
