Delaware students excel at national career tech conferences

UPDATE:

Eleven Delaware students also brought home top awards from the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. this summer.

 They were among the 4,100 students participating in 32 National Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) competitive events, which are designed to support and enhance college and career-readiness, leadership, management and problem-solving skills.

 Eunice Nam of Red Clay Consolidated School District’s A.I. duPont High School won a silver medal for fashion construction while Wing Tang of A.I. won silver for fashion design. Laura Wilkinson of A.I. brought home bronze for her placement in the recycle and redesign event. In the sports nutrition event, Julian Cheng, Alisha Valdivia and Jarod Wilson of Christina School District’s Newark High won gold. And Aileen Kerrigan and Madeline Milligan of Newark High along with Brandon Dehoff, Jessica Griffith and Ivy Janocha of Red Clay’s McKean High won silver in the illustrated talk event.

 
 
 
High-school students from across Delaware won top honors in three national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) competitions this summer, demonstrating their dedication, leadership and skill in pursuit of future technical careers. 

More than 320 students and advisors from throughout the state attended national conferences in Louisville, Dallas, and Anaheim last month. Thirty-seven student competitors and 18 school teams from Delaware earned Top 10 honors at these events.

SkillsUSA Leadership Conference

At the 51st annual National SkillsUSA Leadership Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, Delaware students participated in 62 hands-on, minds-on competitive events that included architectural drafting, cosmetology, technical math and more. SkillsUSA is a CTSO for students interested in pursuing future technical careers.
