Welcome to Health & Nutrition

-
The health and nutrition of students, along with children and adults in day care settings, is supported by the School Support Services Workgroup. As a part of the Adult Education & School Supports Branch, School Support Services programs are a foundation to the vision of the Delaware Department of Education for every learner to be successful. School Support Services leads programs that support the health and well-being of students. Our vision is
Nurturing healthy bodies and minds - one child, one family, one community at a time
School Support Services assist learners to reach the classroom ready to learn by providing efficient and accessible leadership, professional learning opportunities, technical assistance and outreach.
Health and education go hand in hand. We know that a child, who is hungry, struggles to pay attention in class. A learner, who needs glasses, cannot read the written instructions on the board. And an adolescent, who is pregnant, misses days of school. Each of these students is at risk of school failure, even in schools with great teachers and leaders.
School Support Services currently has three primary programs: Child Nutrition, School Health Services and Adolescent Health (HIV/STD/Teen Pregnancy Prevention - CDC Grant).
