Ebola Information and Resources

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports the 2104 Ebola epidemic to be the largest in history (http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/index.html). While primarily affecting West African countries, there have been two imported cases and two locally acquired cases in the U.S. The CDC is working with state public health agencies and other partners to educate the public about Ebola and to prevent further spread of the virus.

The Delaware Department of Education is working closely with the Delaware Division of Public Health and local education agencies to provide information and resources on preparedness and response in the school setting. Given the close monitoring of travelers entering the U.S. from identified West African countries (http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/outbreaks/2014-west-africa/distribution-map.html#areas), it is unlikely that an individual would become sick at school; however, schools are urged to be prepared to respond in a manner that safeguards the school community.
