  • Adult Education Permit Renewal

    There are two adult education program permits: Adult Basic Education (ABE) and James H. Groves High School.

    Adult Basic Education (ABE) Teacher Permit Renewal

    The Adult Basic Education (ABE) Level I Permit is valid for three years and the Level II Permit is valid for five years.

    The Department shall replace an ABE Level I Permit with an ABE Level II Permit when the following requirements are met:

    • Must have provided 25 clock hours in the Math or English/Language Arts content areas while holding a Level I Permit for 3 years and then must apply for the Level II Permit
    • Must not receive more than 1 unsatisfactory summative evaluation during the term of the Level I Permit

    The Department shall renew a Level II Permit when the following requirements are met:

    • Must complete 45 clock hours of approved professional development in the Math or English/Language Arts content areas every 5 years to maintain and renew the Level II Permit
    • Must not receive more than 1 unsatisfactory summative evaluation during the term of the Level II Permit

    James H. Grove Teacher Permit Renewal

    The James H. Groves High School Level I Permit is valid for three years and the Level II Permit is valid for five years. The James H. Groves High School Administrator Level III Permit is valid during active employment as an adult education administrator.

    The Department shall renew a James H. Grove High School Level I Permit when the following requirements are met:

    • Must submit 25 clock hours in the content area in which instruction is being given during term of Level I Permit
    • Must not receive more than 1 unsatisfactory summative evaluation during the term of the Level I Permit

    The Department shall renew a James H. Grove High School Level II Permit when the following requirements are met:

    • Must complete 45 clock hours of approved professional development in the content area in which instruction is being given every 5 years to maintain and renew the Level II Permit
    • Must not receive more than 1 unsatisfactory summative evaluation during the term of the Level II Permit

    The James H. Groves High School Administrator Level III Permit once issued will remain valid during active employment as an adult education administrator.

    Adult Education Permit Regulation

  • Interpreter Tutor for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Permit Renewal

    The Interpreter Tutor for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Permit is valid for five years.

    The Department shall renew an Interpreter Tutor for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Permit when the following requirements are met:

    • Holds current national certification as a Generalist by Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID); or
    • Holds current certified membership in RID as an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) credentialed interpreter who achieved a level 4.0 or higher on the Elementary or Secondary American Sign Language video stimulus tapes evaluation.

    Interpreter Tutor for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Permit Regulation

  • Paraeducator Permit Renewal

    The Title I Paraeducator Permit, Instructional Paraeducator Permit, and Service Paraeducator Permit are all valid for five years.

    The Department shall renew each respective Paraeducator Permit when the following requirements are met:

    • Must complete 15 clock hours of approved professional development every five years
    • The 15 clock hours must be earned during the current and active Paraeducator Permit timeframe
