Comprehensive Induction Program
Minimum Program Requirements
Below is a list of minimum requirements for each year of the Comprehensive Induction Program (CIP). Districts and charter schools may provide additional supports and/or may have their own Comprehensive Induction Program as approved by the Delaware Department of Education.
Year 1
- Weekly Face-to-Face (virtual or in person) conversations with a Mentor (to provide real-time or near real-time support)
- Four (4) observations/feedback cycles conducted by the Mentor
- Observe skilled educators in practice four times (via videos, virtually or in-person)
- Participate in two (2) professional learning workshops ( final approval is at the LEA’s discretion)
- Complete on-line ethics course (approved by DOE)
Year 2
- Face-to-Face (virtual or in person) conversations with a Mentor (to provide real-time or near real-time support)
- Four (4) observations/feedback cycles conducted by the Mentor
- Observe skilled educators in practice four times (via videos, virtually or in-person)
- Participate in two (2) professional learning workshops ( final approval is at the LEA’s discretion)
Year 3
- Participate in a Professional Learning Community ((virtual or in person PLC) specific to the statewide mentoring program that focuses on using data to make instructional decisions that best meet the needs of his or her students.
- Participate in a small group book study with a learning team
- Review text chapters prior to learning team meetings (6 required chapters)
- Lead a minimum of one (1) learning team meeting
- Implement strategies discussed during learning team meetings into classroom instruction
- Collect evidence of strategy implementation to share at follow-up learning team meeting
- Complete a final reflection on Year 3
Year 4
- Conduct a self-analysis to assess his or her professional development needs in content knowledge and pedagogical skills; and Develop and implement a personalized professional growth plan that addresses his or her individual needs identified through the self-analysis.
- Conduct a self-analysis (Pedagogical Skills and Content-Related Skills)
- Identify areas of strength and areas for growth (select at least one (1) area for growth)
- Develop a personalized professional growth plan to address the area(s) for growth
- Implement the personalized professional growth plan (action research, individual book study, group book study, lesson study, college courses, or other professional learning as approved by the LEA and aligned with the educator's self-analysis)
