Welcome to Driver Education

  • Student

  • The purpose of driver education is to provide high school students with the knowledge, motivation, attitudes and driving skills needed to become responsible members of the highway transportation system.

Driver education teachers assist students in the development of knowledge and abilities needed to gather and evaluate information from the driving environment and make appropriate decisions regarding their behavior in traffic.

In Delaware, the field of driver education is dynamic.  It is constantly changing.  Driver education teachers continually engage in professional development opportunities to enhance and expand their knowledge base.  By doing so, the students they teach become the recipients of quality instruction.

Driver Education was a comprehensive program enacted in Delaware in 1934.  For more information about the history of Driver Education, visit our Driver Education History page.
