-
The Delaware Department of Education Pupil Transportation Department provides leadership, fiscal, regulatory and technical assistance for the public school districts and charter schools in the State of Delaware.
Our objective is to:
- Provide support for public school transporters to provide safe and reliable transportation for students in the State of Delaware;
- Provide technical assistance to help Local Education Agencies (LEAs) provide transportation service as safely and efficiently as possible; and
- Assist the Local Education Agency to provide fiscal responsibility, decision-making authority and accountability.
The Department of Education helps to enforce the school transportation regulations for 19 school districts and 25 charter schools that transport 130,000 pupils, on 1800 school buses each day. Local school districts operate approximately 1/3 of all buses and private school bus contractors provide the other 2/3.
