Delaware School Counselors

  • School counselors are essential members of the education team. As certified educators with a minimum of a master's degree, they are uniquely qualified to meet the academic, social/emotional and career needs of all students. In addition to direct student interaction, school counselors promote student success through their leadership, advocacy and collaborative efforts.

In Delaware, school counselors implement school counseling programs based on the ASCA National Model. The ASCA Model provides a framework for school counselors to build programs that support the school's mission. ASCA Model programs are comprehensive in scope, preventative in design and developmental in nature. They focus on student outcomes, address student competencies and are delivered based on professional competencies and ethical standards. Research indicates that school counselors who run comprehensive, data-driven school counseling programs improve learning and behavioral outcomes for their students.
