Safe and Supportive Environment (SSE): Suicide Prevention

Suicide Prevention
  • Suicide is a serious public health problem that affects even young people.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), for youth between the ages of 10-24, suicide is the third leading cause of death.  It results in approximately 4600 lives lost each year.  Parents, guardians, family members, friends, teachers, school administrators, coaches and extracurricular activity leaders, mentors, service providers, and many others can play a role in preventing suicide and supporting youth.

Suicide is preventable, and education and awareness are the keys to prevention.
