Safe and Supportive Environment (SSE): Teen Dating Violence

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines teen dating violence as the physical, sexual, psychological, or emotional violence within a dating relationship, including stalking.  It can occur in person or electronically and might occur between a current or former dating partner.  Several different words are used to describe teen dating violence.  Listed below are just a few.

    • Relationship abuse
    • Intimate partner violence
    • Relationship violence
    • Dating abuse
    • Domestic abuse
    • Domestic violence

    Not all relationships are healthy.  Unhealthy relationships can lead to real emotional and physical consequences.  Schools can teach our youth how to recognize the signs of unhealthy relationships and equip them with the skills necessary to create healthy relationships.
