Needs identified and addressed through Race to the Top: Close achievement gaps, particularly for children from low-income families, special education students and African American students

Major initiatives and investments:

  • Expanded AP and STEM class offerings, as well as dual enrollment programs
  • “Fast Forward Math” (double semester Algebra I and Algebra II) for under-represented students
  • Expansion of extra academic time program for at-risk students and summer skill support program
  • Credit recovery program to allow students who have fallen behind to make up classes after school
  • 140 minutes of common planning time per week
  • Teacher leader/instructional coach position to help teachers refine the pedagogical process

Other innovations within the plan:

  • Teachers teaching teachers” - teacher-run professional development program
  • Video production team will print and host stories on the execution of the plan
