The needs assessment addressed through RTTT includes:
- 9th Grade advancement to grade level
- Percent proficient on DCAS
- Achievement gaps
- Graduation Rate
- Culture of college and career readiness (PSAT, AP, SAT, College Retention)
Major initiatives and investments:
The Caesar Rodney School district is committed to improving all students, teachers and leaders throughout the Race to the Top grant. District wide continuous improvement initiatives include:
- Professional Learning Communities
- Learning Focused unit and lesson planning framework
The primary focus for RTTT is targeted at the secondary level as identified through the needs assessment. This includes:
- Development of a 9th grade academy or “school within a school” with an emphasis on literacy/mathematics and intervention programs for at-risk groups
- Creation of a summer Success Academy as an extension of the school year for incoming 9th grade students to support the transition to high school
- Expansion of data driven programming and interventions in grades 6-12
- Expansion of rigorous coursework including dual enrollment programs, Advanced Placement (AP) classes and world languages (Chinese and Arabic)
