Why: Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program. Students from kindergarten through college-age use creative problem-solving to solve challenges ranging from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretations of literary classics. These solutions then are brought to competitions on the local, state and international level.
Thousands of teams from throughout the United States and from about 25 other countries participate. Delaware had 244 teams compete this year with 87 advancing to this weekend’s state tournament, having qualified at the regional tournaments (at Sussex Tech March 5 and Caravel Academy March 19). Overall, nearly 1,600 children have taken part in Delaware Odyssey of the Mind this year, making Delaware per capita the largest Odyssey Association in the world.
