ACM Restrictions
The following list includes only those ACM restrictions that we are currently aware of and is subject to change by the state or institution.
Alabama
Auburn University limits ACM access to undergraduate programs. Only 25 new ACM participants are accepted each year, and students must be at the junior or senior level to participate in the ACM. Students must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA and maintain full-time enrollment. The deadline is March 15. Applicants should contact the institutional coordinator prior to contacting state coordinator.
The University of Alabama limits ACM access to the programs that are currently listed in the ACM inventory. In addition, UA applies the following two conditions for participating in approved ACM programs (1) For first-time ACM certification, an undergraduate student must have at least a 25 ACT composite score or 1130 SAT composite score (math and verbal only) and at least a 3.00 overall high school GPA. (2) For continuing certification after the first semester of ACM support, each UA ACM student must maintain at least a 3.00 overall GPA on all UA course work attempted.
Florida
The state of Florida limits ACM access to graduate programs only.
Georgia
Georgia Institute of Technology limits ACM access to the graduate programs that are currently listed in the ACM inventory.
Georgia State University limits ACM access to graduate programs.
The University of Georgia grants ACM access once students have completed at least 60 college credit hours and been formally admitted into the ACM degree program. ACM eligibility at UGA is limited to four academic semesters for undergraduate students.
Maryland
The University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, does not participate in the ACM.
The University of Maryland, University College, does not participate in the ACM.
Towson University restricts ACM access for the following majors until the student is fully admitted to the program:
- Dance Performance
- Dance Performance (Education)
- Electronic Media & Film
- Jazz/Contemporary Music
- Occupational Therapy
- Speech Language Pathology & Audiology
- Theatre Arts
Mississippi
Mississippi State University limits ACM access to the programs that are currently listed in the ACM inventory.
The University of Mississippi limits ACM access to the programs that are currently listed in the ACM inventory.
The University of Southern Mississippi limits ACM access to the programs that are currently listed in the ACM inventory.
North Carolina
As a result of the General Assembly of North Carolina's Appropriations Act of 2011, North Carolina's participation in the ACM, as both a sender and a receiver of students, will be phased out beginning with academic year 2012-13. Students certified for the ACM who are enrolled and begin study prior to the second summer session in 2012 may continue to pay in-state tuition as long as they remain enrolled in their specified degree program. (The second summer session is considered to be a part of the following academic year, even if it should begin prior to July 1.)
Oklahoma
The University of Oklahoma limits ACM access to programs that are currently listed in the ACM inventory.
South Carolina
The Professional Golf Management program at Coastal Carolina University is not offered in the ACM.
The Citadel does not participate in the ACM.
Clemson University limits ACM access to graduate programs.
The College of Charleston does not participate in the ACM.
Francis Marion University does not participate in the ACM.
The deadlines to submit ACM certifications to University of South Carolina are as follows:
- Fall 2011: August 18, 2011
- Spring 2012: January 6, 2012
- Maymester 2012: May 4, 2012.
- Summer I 2012: May 25, 2012.
- Summer II 2012: June 29, 2012.
The University of South Caroline-Beaufort does not participate in the ACM.
Texas
The state of Texas limits ACM access to residential graduate programs only.
The University of Texas at Austin does not participate in the ACM.
Virginia
The College of William and Mary limits ACM access to the program that is currently listed in the ACM inventory, i.e., the M.A. and Ph.D. in American Studies. Delaware does not have ACM access to either program.
George Mason University has restrictive policies for ACM students including full-time status; continuous enrollment; eligibility limited to official time limit for degree; and prohibition against pursuing additional degree components beyond the approved ACM program
In the Longwood University undergraduate Communication Science and Disorders program, students are admitted as pre-CSD and must complete specified coursework (45 credits) and be fully admitted to the CSD program before they can be certified for the ACM.
Virginia Tech is discontinuing participation in the ACM as of Fall 2012 for majors in the College of Engineering and Spring 2013 for any major at any level. Students currently approved for ACM may remain in the program as long as requirements for continuation are met. Please see the VT Registrar's webpage at http://www.registrar.vt.edu/records/common_market.php for information about the transition to nonparticipation. Please note the following:
- Virginia Tech will accept requests from students who first enrolled in General Engineering Summer or Fall 2011 through Spring 2012 for currently approved majors in the state inventory. Certifications will only be accepted through September 4, 2012. No new programs will be added.
- Students newly admitted to the major of Dairy Science as of Summer or Fall 2012 may seek approval for participation in the Academic Common Market no later than September 4, 2012.
- Students newly admitted as of Summer or Fall 2012 in approved majors in the College of Natural Resources and Environment may seek approval for participation in the Academic Common Market no later than September 4, 2012. No new programs will be added.
- Effective Spring 2013, all graduate programs currently listed will be removed. Students admitted to participating ACM majors through Fall 2012 may seek certification for approval no later than September 4, 2012,
West Virginia
The B.S. in Speech Pathology & Audiology at West Virginia University is a high-demand program and is not offered in the ACM.
The B.S. in Forensic & Investigative Science at West Virginia University is a high-demand program and is not offered in the ACM.
Pre-occupational Therapy students at West Virginia University are not eligible for the ACM. Delaware has ACM access to the Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program.
Students studying at the West Virginia Institute of Technology must have completed the associate's degree in Printing Technology before enrolling in the Printing Management program through the ACM.
