Governor's Education Grant for Working Adults
Funded by the Delaware Economic Development Office (DEDO) and administered by the Delaware Higher Education Commission (DHEC)
The Governor's Education Grant for Working Adults is designed to assist working adult students who meet the enrollment, employment, and income eligibility requirements below. To qualify, you must be:
- 18 or older.
- a high school graduate or GED recipient.
- a resident of Delaware and a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
Grant amount:
The maximum Governor's Education Grant for Working Adults for one academic year (July 1 through June 30) is $2,000 for eligible enrollment.
Schools accepting Governor's Education Grant for Working Adults are limited to Delaware-based institutions who have agreed contractually to adhere to the following payment schedule:

The following Adult Education Centers in Delaware accept the Governor's Education Grant for Working Adults and offer exceptional value and opportunity for workforce retraining:
- New Castle County Vo-Tech School District Adult Education Division
- Polytech Adult Education
- Sussex Tech Adult Division
The following colleges in Delaware also accept Governor's Education Grant for Working Adults:
- Delaware College of Art & Design
- Delaware Technical and Community College, all campuses
- Delaware State University
- Goldey-Beacom College
- Wilmington University
Enrollment requirements:
- Eligible enrollment is defined as (a) enrollment in non-credit adult education classes or (b) part-time enrollment in college classes with a courseload of 11 credits or less.
- You must enroll as a part-time undergraduate student at an institution that accepts the Governor's Education Grant for Working Adults OR enroll in courses at a participating Adult Education Center (see above).
- If you take courses using grant funds, you must agree to allow the school to release grade and progress information to the Delaware Higher Education Commission. Academic progress is monitored and may impact future eligibility.
Employment requirements:
- You must be employed by a company in Delaware. Employees of government agencies are not eligible.
- Any part-time or temporary employment at a Delaware company qualifies.
- If employed full-time, you must work for a small business in Delaware with 100 or fewer employees.
Income requirements:
- Your individual annual income must not exceed 300% of the annual Federal Poverty Level, or $31,200.

Restrictions:
- Full-time college students are not eligible for a grant for enrollment in interim winter sessions or summer sessions.
- Grants for part-time students enrolling in summer sessions are dependent upon funding.
- Students who receive any other scholarships or grants for their educational expenses are not eligible. (Employee-paid tuition benefits may be used with grants without penalty.)
- Graduate-level coursework does not qualify.
Deadline:
All application materials must be received by the end of the free drop/add period each term. Grants are nonrenewable. A separate application is required for each term.

You can apply online on DHEC's secure Student Account Access site at https://www.doe.k12.de.us/high-ed/student/login.aspx. First-time users must establish an account and provide a valid email and mailing address before proceeding to the application. Incomplete applications cannot be processed. Please be sure to provide all of the required information:
- Class List Request and Release of Academic Information Authorization (download form from application)
- Academic Transcript (unofficial) for those who are continuing students at institutions of higher education.
- Income Verification:
- Your most recent State of Delaware Income Tax Return
- Your most recent W-2 Statements
- All of your pay stubs for the past month
Note: Dislocated, laid off, and underemployed workers may be eligible for a Delaware Workforce Investment Board Individual Training Account Grant of up to $4,000.
