About the Commission
The Delaware Higher Education Commission consists of 13 members, including the presidents of Delaware Technical and Community College, Delaware State University, and the University of Delaware, chair of one public college board of trustees, president of an independent college, president of the board of trustees of an independent college, Secretary of Education, representative of the Governor’s office, and five citizens appointed by the Governor.
The Commission is charged with ensuring that higher education curricula and outcomes meet state workforce development needs; ensuring that elementary and secondary education curricula and student achievement prepare students to enter college; strengthening the role of higher education in supporting elementary and secondary education reform; and ensuring that state resources for higher education are targeted to serve Delawareans.
Commission activities include the following:
- administration of a variety of state merit-based scholarships, need-based grants, and professional incentive scholarship loans;
- administration of federal and private scholarship programs;
- collection and reporting of data on college cost, enrollment, finance, and degrees awarded;
- administration of aspects of Delaware's membership in the Southern Regional Education Board, including the Academic Common Market;
- administration of aspects of the Delaware College Investment Plan; and
- development of college preparation information for students and parents.
