School-Age Center Position Qualifications (Refer to Delacare: Rules for Early Care and Education and School-Age Centers)

School-Age Intern (Rule #443)
Age Requirement: Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
Education Requirement:
Delaware First's Introduction to School-Age Care OR Delaware First's Child Development OR Delaware First's Introduction to Center-Based Early Care & Education

School-Age Site Assistant (Rule #442)
Age Requirement: Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
Education Requirement:
OPTION A - 3 college credits OR 60 clock hours of training related to the needs of the school-age children
OPTION B - Delaware First's Introduction to School-Age Care OR Delaware First's Child Development OR Delaware First's Introduction to Center-Based Early Care & Education                                                                                                                                                               
Experience Requirement (note: calculation of experience for this position is different than for any other position)
With educational option A - 400 hours (equivalent to 1 year part time for 9 months or full time for 3 months) working with children school-age or younger in a group setting
With educational option B - 800 hours (equivalent to 2 years part time for 9 months or full time for 6 months (two summers) working with children school-age or younger in a group setting

School-Age Site Coordinator (Rule #440)
Age Requirement: Must be at least twenty (20) years of age
Education Requirement:
OPTION A - 12 College credits related to the needs of the school-age children served
OPTION B - 60 college credits including 12 college credits related to the needs of the school-age children served
NEW Option - Bachelor degree with 12 college credits related to the needs of the school-age children
Experience Requirement:
With Educational Option A: Three (3) years experience working with children school-age or younger in a group setting
With Education Option B: Two (2) years experience working with children school-age or younger in a group setting
With New Option: 3 months supervised student teaching or twelve (12) months experience working with children school-age or younger in a group setting

School-Age Administrator (Rule #439)
Age Requirement: Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
Education Requirement (may meet the same qualifications as Early Childhood Administrator - Rule #153)
OPTION A - Associate degree in a field related to recreation, elementary education, school-age care or school-age administration. AND Fifteen (15) college/university credits (can be within the degree) related to the needs of the school-age children served.
OPTION B - Bachelor degree AND Fifteen (15) college/university credits (can be within degree) in courses related to the needs of school-age children served.
Experience Requirement: Minimum twenty-four (24) months experience working with school-age children or younger in a group setting

Specialized Training Credentials

Anyone may take Specialized Training and be recognized as having these credentials on their Certificate of Qualifications. While this recognition may not be required by a center, it may provide an advantage when seeking employment and will certainly enhance job skills. Specialized Training is recognized for Infant-Toddler Care, School-Age Care, and Program Administration. Applicants must indicate on the Qualifications Application if they are seeking recognition for Specialized Training.
