Pre-Candidacy Workshops

DOE is offering a series of three Pre-Candidacy Workshops for prospective NBC candidates.

Attendance at all three Workshops is required for DOE financial assistance, for a National Board Certified Teacher facilitator during candidacy, and, if needed, for DOE financial assistance with retake assessments.

Read all of the information in this section, including the links to additional materials and forms.  You must register for and attend all three Pre-Candidacy Workshops.

The dates and times for the three Pre-Candidacy Workshops are:

Saturday, January 12, 2008, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon

Saturday, February 2, 2008, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon

Saturday, March 8, 2008, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon.

Important!  Educators must register for these workshops.  Click here for the registration form. The required forms will be available on this site.  Only those who have a confirmed registration and all required materials in hand will be allowed to participate in the Workshop.

All workshops are in Conference Rooms A and B at the John W. Collette Education Resource Center, 35 Commerce Way, Dover.  Directions to the Collette Center are at: http://www.doe.k12.de.us/aboutdoe/location/default.shtml.  Once at this site, click on “Directions” under “Auxiliary Office.”

Educators must be on time and be present for all three hours of each of the three workshops.  The doors to the Collette Center will close at the start of the workshops.  Educators are advised to plan accordingly so that they can attend the entire workshop, beginning to conclusion.

Sign-in sheets will be removed from the registration area at the beginning of the workshops and will be replaced at the conclusion of the workshops.  The sign-in sheets serve as verification for attending the entire workshop and not signing in and/or out will preclude using the workshop to fulfill the eligibility requirement for DOE financial assistance and other support.

If an educator is unable to attend all three of the Pre-Candidacy Workshops in their entirety, s/he will not be eligible for DOE financial assistance and other support for the 2008 – 2009 candidacy cycle as well as, if necessary, for the second and/or third year of candidacy.

The purpose of the Pre-Candidacy Workshops is to help educators make an informed decision about their candidacy and to prepare them for NBC Boot Camp and for completing their portfolio.

The Pre-Candidacy Workshops will make a three-day, rather than five-day, NBC Boot Camp possible in the summer.  Additionally, the work done during the Workshops will result in a more interactive and in-depth experience for prospective candidates at NBC Boot Camp.
