NBC Awareness Meetings and NBC Boot Camp

Read all of the information in this section, including the links to additional materials and forms.  Educators must register for an Awareness Meeting.

The Department of Education is sponsoring two Awareness Meetings for educators interested in National Board Certification.  Attendance at one of the Awareness Meetings is required for DOE financial assistance, for a National Board Certified Teacher facilitator during candidacy, and, if needed, for DOE financial assistance with retake assessments.

The dates for the two Awareness Meetings are:

Saturday, December 1, 2007, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Saturday, December 8, 2007, 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Registration is required for the Awareness Meetings.  Click here for the registration form.  Only those who have registered and have a confirmation will be allowed to attend.

All meetings are in Conference Rooms A and B at the John W. Collette Education Resource Center, 35 Commerce Way, Dover.  Directions to the Collette Center are at: http://www.doe.k12.de.us/aboutdoe/location/default.shtml.  Once at this site, click on “Directions” under “Auxiliary Office.”

Before attending the Awareness Meeting, educators are to print out and review a copy of the presentation and bring it to the Awareness Meeting.  The presentation will be available at this site soon.

Only educators with the presentation in-hand and a confirmed registration will be allowed to attend the Awareness Meeting.

Before attending the Awareness Meeting, educators must carefully review the eligibility requirements and the fields of National Board Certification.  Click here for the Eligibility Requirements and here for the Fields of National Board Certification.

Educators may attend the Awareness Meeting that is convenient for them; however, they must be on time and be present for the entire meeting.  The doors to the Collette Center will close at the start of the meeting.  Educators are advised to select their meeting date carefully and to plan accordingly so that they can attend the entire meeting, beginning to conclusion.

Sign-in sheets will be removed from the registration area at the beginning of the meeting and will be replaced at the conclusion of the meeting.  The sign-in sheets serve as verification for attending the entire meeting and not signing in and/or out will preclude using the meeting to fulfill the eligibility requirement for DOE financial assistance and other support.

If an educator is unable to attend one of the Awareness Meetings, s/he will not be eligible for DOE financial assistance and other support for the 2008 – 2009 candidacy cycle as well as, if necessary, for the second and/or third year of candidacy.

Important!  To be eligible for DOE financial assistance and other support during all years of candidacy, educators must also attend the three Pre-Candidacy Workshops and National Board Certification Boot Camp.

Before the Awareness Meetings, educators find it very useful to become more informed about National Board Certification by accessing information through the website of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Educators can address questions about the Awareness Meetings or eligibility requirements to:

The purpose of the Awareness Meetings is to help educators make an informed decision about their candidacy.
