DATE:         Saturday, February 6, 2010

TIME:         9:00 – 12:00 (Registration begins at 8:30am)

Pre-registration will be available in January (email registration available if payment is made by February 4th to hold choice)                         

Walk-ins welcome for open sessions only

COST:         $5.00 per student – refreshments provided

WHO:          Students in Grades PreK-12, Parents, and Teachers    

This annual, county-wide conference is a wonderful opportunity for students, parents, and teachers to spend the morning with local authors and illustrators!  Students will learn valuable writing and illustrating skills from the pros while reading and writing strategy sessions are available for teachers and parents. Authors and illustrators are available during breaks for book signing and sales. Registration forms will be available in January via Kent County schools and the DSRA website http://www.doe.k12.de.us/dsra/

*Clock hours are available for teachers who attend the informational sessions or volunteer to assist the authors and illustrators.

This year's conference will feature:

·         PreK & K with Parent _____

  • Out of This World!  Mary Murrian and Mary-Anne Lessard will be appropriately dressed in  space suits to take these youngsters on a fun journey that they will enjoy writing and illustrating!

·         Hilary Welliver (Director of Kent County Division of Libraries, author, professional storyteller), Storytelling and Writing, 1st-2nd _____

·         Christy Shaffer (illustrator), Drawing and Writing, 3rd - 4th ______

·         Katie Kazimir(DE State News), Journalism, 3rd-6th _____

·         Poetry (presenter TBA)   3rd-6th   _____

·         Nancy Carol Willis (author & illustrator), Drawing and Writing, 5th-6th _____

·         Lee. S. King (author of adolescent novels), "Twilight" Fantasy.Sci-Fi , 6th - HS _____

·         Brad Dotson (College of Art and Design) , Cartooning,  5th – HS _____

·         Tony Varrato (author of adolescent novels), What a Character! 6th-HS _____

·         Parent/Teacher Sessions:

  • Joe Murray – Captain Blue Hen Comics:  Kids and Graphic Novels (Session 1)

  • Mrs. Michelle Sell –  Vocabulary and Reading Strategies that Enhance Comprehension – from the work of Kylene Beers and Robert Marzano (Session 2)

  • KCR reserves the right to flex the grade levels to keep sessions balanced; i.e. to allow a 3rd grader to join a 4/5 group.
