  • Participate in professional development related to data analysis to provide the link between student health and academic achievement.
  • Create data collection indicators to help measure the impact of health initiatives and programs (e.g. nutrition, physical activity) on student achievement.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities for engagement in daily physical activity.
  • Participate in the Fitnessgram physical fitness assessment to determine fitness levels and establish goals for improvement.
  • Promote family fitness days.
  • Promote after-school programs in physical activity.
  • Use bulletin boards to display photos, posters, and messages depicting “fit, healthy and ready to learn” children.
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders to access evidence-based programming or financial resources to promote quality nutrition and physical activity interventions.
  • Implement a comprehensive health education program for K-12.
  • Establish and implement local wellness policies.
  • Participate in the National School Lunch/Breakfast Programs, After-School Feeding Program and the Summer Food Service Program.
  • Provide staff education on health/chronic disease relative to personal and student wellness and success.
  • Participate in the School Nurse Induction Cluster.
  • Conduct mandated health screenings early in the school year to facilitate early identification and correction.
  • Improve health and social referrals and follow-ups.
  • Participate in programs sponsored by the American Lung Association (TATU, NOT, Kick Butts).
  • Participate in the Lt. Governor’s Fitness Challenge and the “Get Up and Do Something” campaign.
  • Participate in the Delaware School Survey and the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) to monitor health risks of students.
  • Ensure representatives with health expertise are included on the School Improvement Team.
  • Invite the DE National Guard Drug Demand Reduction Unit to provide Project Adventure activities.
  • Sponsor “Lunch and Learns” through Wellness Centers.
  • Integrate the Student Success Plans (SSP) program to provide a wide range of tools to enhance the experience for students, their families and aid educators in guiding students.
