Mentoring First Year Nurses (ME4)

The final experience of the Comprehensive Induction Program for School Nurses focuses on self-assessment of knowledge and skills, studying nursing’s foundational documents, and planning for professional development during the first continuing license. After completion of the self-assessment based on School Nursing: Scope and Standards, required readings and two webinars, the nurse will be asked to consider and plan personal growth activities for the next five years. These activities may include formal university studies, book studies, action research, and other topics. Nurses will be asked to discuss their Professional Growth Plan for School Nursing with the Lead School Nurse Mentor. The nurse cannot be required to select activities, such as coursework, that would require payment for the experience. The plan may be changed as learning needs change. The plan is meant as a flexible guide for the next five years of lifelong learning responsibility. The final activity for the induction program is a thoughtful reflection on the Comprehensive Induction Program for School Nurses.
